Jim was elected as Mayor of the Queenstown Lakes District Council in October 2016, and completed his second term in October 2022.
Jim's expertise extends across diverse business sectors including aviation, tourism, financial services, property, automotive, publishing, and hospitality.Jim Boult's contributions have earned him multiple accolades. In 2015, he was honoured as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his service to the community and the tourism industry. In 2016, he received the Queenstown Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising the significant effect Jim has had on his local community. Jim also became a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management in 2012.
Jim has also served as the Deputy Chairman of Tourism New Zealand and has held director, board member, managing director, and chairman positions in several prominent public and private companies, as well as government entities. For an impressive 16 years, he was the Managing Director of Shotover Jet.
During Jim's leadership as a director and CEO of Christchurch International Airport (2003-2013), the airport received the Jim Collins Award for an Outstanding Contribution to Aviation Safety for their actions during and after the Canterbury earthquakes. Notably, Jim was named 'Airport Personality of the Year' by the NZ Airports Association in both 2010 and 2013.
In his hometown of Queenstown, Jim has chaired numerous charities, council-sponsored working parties, and community endeavours, making a profound impact on the local community. Importantly, Jim’s dedication of over three decades to the Child Cancer Foundation was acknowledged with a Lifetime Membership in 2020.
